Town of Garfield Planning Commission Secretary’s Minutes Meeting
of 1/08/09
Meeting called to order at 7:05 p.m.
In attendance: Orval Johnson, Chair; Marilyn Buckingham, Member; Gordon Lindahl,
Member; Sylvan Erickson, Secretary; Scott Ward Town of Garfield Engineer and Nolan
Wall, Planner, Stevens Engineers.
Absent: Mark Knutson, member.
The meeting of 12/11/08 were read and approved. [Orval/Gordan]
Public Comment: Ed Moersfelder expressed concerns related to ordinances regarding
garbage, trash and “junk.” He also requested a zoning ordinance that is comprehensive,
recognizes open space while facilitating cluster development and responsive to local
residents. The preferred option is most likely zoning at the Town level.
Marilyn informed us the Town Board approved having two additional members on the
planning commission. We will remind the board and suggest the process of finding
potential members start now so that new members can be in attendance for the April
meeting.
We discussed the advantages and disadvantages of joining Polk County zoning. Costs
related hiring an administrator and enforcement were concerns. Clarification was
provided on the relationship of ordinances and zoning and enforcement, thereof.
Scott and Nolan provided public nuisance ordinances from various townships for our
review.
These minutes were read and approved as presented. [Marilyn/Gordan]
Meeting adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Sylvan Erickson
Secretary
