Town of Garfield Planning Commission Secretary’s Minutes Meeting
of 12/11/08
Meeting called to order at 7:15 p.m.
In attendance: Orval Johnson, Chair; Mark Knutson, Member; Gordon Lindahl, Member;
Sylvan Erickson, Secretary; Scott Ward Town of Garfield Engineer.
Absent: Marilyn Buckingham.
Sarah McCurdy of the Polk County Land Office presented her duties, the role of the
department, and what projects are in the near future. The county will be completing a
larger scale comprehensive plan that will encompass the individual townships. The
county will be rewriting the Comprehensive Land Use Ordinance. It is estimated to be
completed in 2010. The town would set the zoning even if adapting county zoning. The
town would have advisement, but the county makes the decision.
Three options: 1) Adopt county, we create the map, county administers. 2) We do our
own mapping, ordinances and administration. 3) Do nothing and continue with our
ordinances.
To opt in the town needs to send a certified letter stating the desire to join county zoning.
Farmington, St. Croix Falls, Bone Lake, Lake Town, Garfield and Sterling are towns
currently “opted out.”
